A Look into Business School Grants
Business school grants are offered in two different forms: ones that are through business schools or ones that are funded by the federal government. There are actually quite a few federal school grants that will support a business education, and the most common are the Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant. Both of these are for those students who are of low income. Just because these are the only ones we normally hear about, it wouldn't hurt to explore other student grants the federal government has to offer.
The majority of business schools offer their own school grants. They award grants based on merit, though they may also give out funds to students with real financial need. Some schools offer scholarships as well, and they both can be used as free money for college. The amounts of these school grants will depend on the school, as some schools will have large funds some will not. School grants directly from the school are open to both undergraduates and graduates in their master's degree program.
Students who are interested in getting business school grants need to understand that these grants are awarded by a first come, first served basis. This especially is so for the school based grants. To be able to be awarded the most school grant money, it is wise to apply for the grant that you want quite early. The first thing you need to do is fill out an FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The sooner this is filled out, the better, since this is the form that decides whether or not you are eligible.
The FAFSA is an essential component for a student's school grants. Most school can show the student what needs to be done, but it's highly recommended that the student fill this form out online. By doing it online, the process will be much faster than handing in a paper copy to the school. Once the student has decided on what form to use, paper or online, they should have all their documentation handy, such as their identification and records of earnings (income tax returns, bank statements, investment records, etc.). Dependent students will need their parents's information as well. The application should be filled out as completely as possible so that there are no questions which will slow down the process. If you apply, be sure to proof read the application and have someone else proof read it. After it's been decided that all is in order, send or hand in the application.
